INTRODUCTION

1) We want to notice the "Call of God" to Abram and see how It parallels with God's calling us today.

DISCUSSION:

I. ABRAM'S CALL TO LEAVE

A. Do you remember how you felt the first time you spent a night away from home?

B. Relate the feeling of leaving home upon reaching adulthood.

C. How did you feel when you left for College, the military or to form a new home?

D. Abram was called to leave his:

1. Comforts

2. Conveniences

3. Home

4. Friends and Family

E. God called Abram to leave all of his past life behind and follow God to he knew not where.

II. JESUS' CALL TO LEAVE

A. Read Matthew 19:16-30 – the rich young ruler.

Luke 14:33 - "In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has, cannot be my disciple".

B. We attempt to soft-soap this commend.

C. It is still as true today as It was in Abram’s day

D. It is as true today as it was in the day of Jesus' ministry.

E. We must leave all to follow Jesus!

1. Worldly relations - I Corinthians 15:33

2. Material dependence - Matthew 6:33

3. Past false concepts and beliefs Galatians 1:8-9

4. Selfishness - Philippians 2:3-4

F. We must leave all worldliness behind us.

1. 1 Peter 2:11

2. Romans 12:1-2

CONCLUSION

1) To the weak - Jesus has called you to leave all your past behind.

2) To the non-Christian - Count the cost - Luke 14:28-33

3) How did Abraham do it? The Same Way Jesus did it.

4) Jesus looked forward not back (Heb 12:1-2).

5) Abraham did it by looking forward and not looking back (Heb. 11:13-16).
